A protest against Blackburn owners Venky’s has been confirmed for the visit of Wolves at the end of the month, the 1875 protest should gain greater attention as Rovers are on Sky Sports on that occasion.
Glen Mullan has organised this protest, which will (as the title suggests) focus on 18 and 75, the minutes of the match with the year of course essential to Blackburn, as 1875 was the year Rovers were formed.
He told the Lancashire Telegraph.
‘1875 witnessed the birth of one of England’s oldest clubs, which for 141 years has gone on to be England’s most successful town team.’
Then along came Venky’s in November 2010 and despite promises made at the time these haven’t been kept with Blackburn on a downward decline since that has almost ‘destroyed the club’, Mullan added.
‘2010 witnessed the arrival of the Rao family, who promised to respect and build on the club’s famous heritage. Six years later, through complete negligence and incompetence, they have almost destroyed the club.’
What will this protest do and involve? The hopes are the fans aren’t going to come into Ewood Park until the 18th-minute with them then encouraged to leave the ground in the 75th-minute and of course protest (but support the team) in-between.
He concluded the hopes are with this being a live Sky Sports match on 29th September this will deliver an even greater message to the clubs owners and help to convince them to sell up and move on.
‘The televised home fixture against Wolves gives the fans the opportunity to let their feelings be known to the wider football family. The 1875 protest, which will see supporters only take their seats in the 18th minute, and leave them again in the 75th minute, is being organised to deliver the message that supporters of Blackburn Rovers are united and want Venky’s to sell the club.’
Since Venky’s arrived at Ewood in November 2010 relegation from the Premier League in their first full season (2011-12) has been seen with it often a struggle in the Championship since with a number of high profile players sold on (sometimes with high fees not reinvested into the club or at fees unfitting a player of such quality) with Blackburn currently in the relegation zone and looking as though it could be League 1 football and potentially bust to come!
