34 Years Unbeaten! Rovers v Dingles

It took 95 minutes, but local lad, born and bred, David Dunn emerged the saviour as Blackburn Rovers held onto a 34 year unbeaten streak, a late equaliser against fierce rivals Burnley.

In a tight, tense first half, both teams failed to create any significant chances. Challenges were flying in, players running for their dear lives with both sets of players knowing exactly what this fixture meant for their supporters group. If anything, Burnley did manage to create the better of the chances in the first, Charlie Austin striking over from inside the box whilst Paterson tested Kean twice, forcing a good solid save.

Blackburn failed to create much, however the midfield pairing of Lowe and Jones were holding their own. Stewart and Dunn attempted to dart in when possible whilst Martin Olsson looked dangerous on the overlap. Leon Best and Jordan Rhodes lacked the clinical first touch to turn any half opportunities into a chance.

32 minutes in and Burnley took the lead. Ross Wallace sent in a free kick from distance, Shackell striking against the woodwork before tapping in the return, sending the travelling supporters into ecstasy.

With the rest of the half fizzing out, the break couldn’t come at a better time for Rovers. Leon Best made way at the break, Josh Morris coming on, forcing Cameron Stewart further up the pitch.

Blackburn did start to up the tempo, David Dunn becoming more influential as he attempted to unlock the stubborn Burnley defence. The problems did though continue for Rovers as they continued to fail to create the golden opportunity, strikes from distance by Rhodes and Dunn the only real chances.

The fixture took a massive turn in fortunes 65 minutes in. Booked only minutes earlier, Ben Mee decided to follow through on a late challenge, earning an early bath and reducing Burnley to 10 men. Rovers supporters sniffed an opportunity and erupted, urging the boys forwards.

The clock ticked, and ticked and ticked until the Assistant signalled 6 minutes of added time. Nuno Gomes came on to add an extra body up front and it proved to make a difference. With 95 minutes on the clock, Nuno Gomes managed a neat switch of play, finding David Dunn who bended it into the near post, Ewood Park shook as Blackburn Rovers held onto their 34 year record against the local neighbours
