A ‘Good Going Rover’ with Man City

This time, as a bit of a treat, with a twist

Ahead of tonight’s crunch clash with Manchester City I thought I would round up a member of the opposition for a little Q and A to gain a bit of perspective.

With our Premier League future in the balance it seemed only fair to have a cool, calm head give us a view from the outside.

Normally we would round up a journalist or the editor of our rival site but as a bit of a treat (especially for yours truly) I have dragged along hardcore Man City fan and my very own brother Jonny Delap for the ride!

As usual the questions were asked, answers were given and it makes a good read no doubt – grab a cup of tea and take a seat –

1) With City now in the FA Cup final and in a good position in the league would the City faithful consider Champions League qualification and a cup win a success given the huge investment at Eastlands?

I think it’s really important for the club to qualify for the Champions League this season. Having narrowly missed out last year and after the investment in the summer, Mancini’s main target has to have been a top 4 finish and if we succeed then you have to be happy with the progression. Winning a trophy would mean the world to us and it is a strong possibility having reached the FA Cup final.

2) The media give the general impression that for all the money spent at City that Carlos Tevez turns your side into a one man team of sorts – is this fair comment?

Sure Tevez is a fantastic player but It would be naive to think that City are a one man team.

Areas of the team could still be strengthened but I think we have a strong core.

3) Outside of the aforementioned Tevez, who else has stood out for the Citizens this season?

Kompany, De Jong, Silva and Tevez have been our outstanding players. I think the majority of City fans would say the same. Kompany has been immense this season, him and De Jong are the two solid players that we can always count on game after game.

Silva took a short while to adjust to the premiership but has been an absolute joy to watch.

It has to be said that Tevez was better in the first half of the season before the January saga.

4) And can you tell us quite how good it was to beat your fierce rivals United in last weekend’s FA Cup semi final?

It was brilliant. It’s always great to get one over United and it felt especially good beating them in the semi-final of the FA cup at Wembley. It was obvious we were going to beat them off the pitch and our fans were magnificent as usual but I think it was quite clear to see we outplayed United on the pitch and we fully deserved the win.

5) Moving on to your opponents tonight, what do you make of the whole Steve Kean/Venky’s situation?

I hope Blackburn stay up but I fear for you under Steve Kean because he doesn’t have the experience and you have been looking poor for a while, with no wins in your last 8 games (I’m sure I don’t have to remind you).

It seems quite surreal really, I don’t think Blackburn would be in the same position if Sam Alladyce was still in charge.

Venky’s seem very odd to me and appear determined to create as much publicity as possible.

It’s easy for people who don’t have real football pedigree to make rash decisions if they don’t surround themselves with the correct people.

6) Is there anybody from the Blackburn side you can see causing City a few problems tonight?

Ex-players have a habit of scoring against their old team and Blackburn have two former City strikers in RSC and Benjani.

Luckily for us they are both quite poor and add into the mix that RSC can’t actually play.

Morten Gamst Pedersen always seems to play well against us.

7) Can you make a side of Rovers and City players using a maximum of seven players from one side?

Paul Robinson, Vincent Kompany, Chris Samba, Pablo Zabaleta, Michel Salgado, Nigel De Jong, David Dunn, David Silva, Yaya Toure, Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tevez.

8) And finally, can I grab a prediction from you?

Blackburn are in desperate need of the points but I think City will be too strong. 0-2 City.

Let me be the first to thank Jonny for taking time to speak to Vital Blackburn and wish him luck for tonight’s game… but not too much obviously.
