Interview time ahead of Sundays big game! This time with Vital Boltons’ Richard McCormick

Ahead of the Bolton v Blackburn game this weekend I took Richard McCormick of Vital Bolton to one side and asked him a few sneaky questions to get his two cents on the upcoming game.

Check it out….

1) How do you feel the season has gone so far, happy?

Not really. We took one point from games against Sunderland, Hull and Stoke and that may prove costly. Defensively we`re shocking and it`s not just down to the back four. There`s very little protection in midfield and that`s down to a lack of organisation.

2) Is Gary Megson really as unliked by the Bolton fans as is made out in the press etc…?

As usual, it`s the press being lazy. Opinion is much more divided than they make out. Sure, some people didn`t want him and weren`t prepared to give him at chance. But others have railed at the unfairness of that position and defend him – sometimes to the point of silliness.

Most will judge on results regardless of like or dislike. My view is that Megson has too many shortcomings to be truly successful at top level. But he deserves credit for stabilising the club when it was in a pretty horrible position.

3) What are your thoughts on Sam Allardyce nowadays?

Sam was manager when we had our most successful period for fifty years. Four consecutive top eight finishes was a remarkable achievement considering the lack of resources.

But the manner of his leaving – saying that he wanted a break from football and then pitching up at Newcastle a fortnight later – has left a bad taste with some. It`s time to draw a line under that and treat him with respect on his return.

4) Surely Diouf will get a good reception you would have thought?

He did at Sunderland last season, and the affection was reciprocated, much to the chagrin of their support. Diouf`s a bit of a cult figure (watch that spelling) at Bolton. There was a time when we were sticking two fingers up at the rest of the football world and revelling in the dislike. He was very much central to that.

5) Any Rovers players you will admit to liking? (Bar Diouf)

If Benni McCarthy decides he likes it at the Reebok and wants to stay I wouldn`t complain. We`ve got a nice hotel we can put him up in.

6) Who has been Boltons player of the season so far?

There isn`t one player who can command that tag. Lee Chung-Yong and Tamir Cohen have shown promise now and then, but need to produce their better displays more consistently. Jussi Jaaskelainen has proved his worth once again.

7) Can I grab a prediction and your thoughts?

Heart says a Bolton win. It`s been nine years since we`ve done you lot at home. Head says a drab 1-1 draw.

Thankyou to Richard and Vital Bolton for taking time to answers these questions, a good read no doubt!

Stay tuned for the return interview with my good self once it is up on Vital Bolton…
