A ‘Good Going Rover’ with Vital Wigan

Ahead of tonights game I have cornered (not literally) Vital Wigan’s Worbo and asked the man a few questions to gain a Wigan perspective on tonights main event.

Forget Man City v Man United! This is the local derby everyone is talking about! (cough cough).

This has all been organised today so apologies if it is not as vast as usual!

1) It really wasnt that long ago that the two sides played (I should know I was there with 23 and 74 in tow!), do you envisage a similar match to last time out (the 1-1 draw)?

Yep I envisage a very similar game, scrappy, tight that could realistically go either way, would love it to be an open attacking affair with blood and thunder football, but I see it as to cautious sides who wont want to lose.

2) Wigan have been perceived as somewhat erratic in the media, would you go along with this?

Erratic is a bit of an understatement with our results, but apart from Man U away our last nine games from the 1-0 win against Sunderland have all been close, so hopefully we are settling down a bit.

3) I have been a big fan of Hugo Rodallega so far this season, is he your best player?

Hugo is an excellent player but for me Charles N`Zogbia is head and shoulders above the rest, he has been in excellent form this season and our most creative outlet by far, whatever the Geordies were doing playing him at left back I don`t know (Ed – Jesus we could say that about half the things Newcastle do but good point!).

4) Roberto Martinez, summarise his management style…

Modern, he isn`t a shouter, he is a definite thinker, they call him a student of the game, our formation is very fluid, four defenders but the full backs have the freedom to roam, two defensive midfielders and the rest, well they move around frequently.

He also likes to play a right footed player wide left and a left footed player wide right so that they can cut in and shoot rather than going to the by-line and crossing, very modern.

5) Can you confirm or deny that Dave Whelan is a bit an egomaniac or is that just general chit chat?

Dave Whelan loves to express himself and he thinks the world hangs off his every word, but would we have him another way? He has worked wonders for our football club and dragged us into the Premier League and kept us there, yes he is an egomaniac god bless him.

6) Anyone from Rovers you would sign for Wigan – apart from Jason Roberts?

Pedersen has always been a favourite of mine and I like the look of N’Zonzi but can we have JR MBE back please, I know you said don`t ask, but!

7) Whats been Wigan’s performance of the season and why?

Beating Chelsea was a fantastic achievement and Villa away, we destroyed them, but for me our performance of the season was the 1-0 win over Sunderland at the DW Stadium. It came the week after our 9-1 trouncing at Spurs and it was so important to get a win, a good performance but also to put on a good defensive show and that`s exactly what we did, a great response to the previous week.

8) Finally, prediction time my good man…

Quite difficult to see past a 1-1 draw but peering through my crystal ball I am actually going for a 1-2 away win for the Latics

Here is thanking Worbo for taking some time out of his busy day to talk to me.
