Blackburn’s pre-season preparations are almost over now, a Rovers side will face Notts County at Meadow Lane today with a goalless draw with Girona witnessed at Ewood Park on Saturday.

Owen Coyle told rovers.co.uk he was, all things considered, pleased with what he saw at Ewood against a side that’s been pushing for La Liga involvement in recent years.

‘I was pleased with how this afternoon went. I knew it was going to be a real test as Girona have missed out in the play-offs to go to La Liga in the last two seasons, so obviously they play at a similar level to ourselves.’

He went onto add he knew the Spanish side would have good technical ability but some of the play from Blackburn was ‘terrific’ until the final 15-minutes when a number of changes saw us lose ‘the impetus’ we had.

Ben Marshall good run and finish had Blackburn ahead but Girona were level instantly when Samuelle Longo equalised with visiting ‘keeper Rene keeping Rovers at bay with Coyle adding.

‘We scored a wonderful goal, our build-up to it was great. We were comfortable on the ball, passing and moving. Their keeper has had to produce two wonder saves in the second half from Shane Duffy and then Darragh Lenihan, one in the top corner, one low down in the bottom corner, two magnificent saves.’

Having attacked the Spanish Segundo DivisiĆ³n Blackburn then had to defend at times too, which Coyle felt we did well.

This all served as good preparations for the season opener with Norwich at Ewood on Saturday with the boss concluding.

‘Then when we had to defend against good players we did it, so all in all I was delighted with the exercise, it allowed us good minutes in preparation for next week against Norwich City. And I thought the fans that came out were great, they got behind the team and the players really enjoyed that.’
