A temporary Rochina reprieve needed

With the transfer window two weeks away from slamming shut, the race is on to complete all the intended summer business into and out of the club.

For our beloved Blackburn, the job is not yet finished with the need to ship out the freeloaders and address some minor squad surgery in terms of incomings.

We’re all aware that the likes of Bradley Orr, Gael Givet and Morten Gamst Pedersen need find news homes to call there own, but perhaps more urgently in the short term a midfielder with an attacking mind is what is needed.

Rovers were robbed of some real invention when Ruben Rochina went down injured with a dislocated shoulder only half an hour into the season opener, it is something that no other player in the squad can offer on a consistent basis.

Cast your mind back to our first fixture at Pride Park, when Rochina was on the field we looked dynamic, appealing and with a variety of attacking options.

Of course it is difficult to make an definitive conclusions based on such a short space of time and Rochina certainly comes with his own problems, but we haven’t looked as threatening without that focal point since and it is a problem that’ll exist until we find a stop gap replacement.

That hole between Rhodes and midfield needs to be filled and with Rochina likely to be out until the just before Christmas, a swift move into the loan market to fill that gap could be the difference between a stay at the wrong end of the table and a slightly more pleasant outcome.

David Dunn is of course inventive and can play the same role as the Spaniard, but can hardly be relied on to play a truck load of games given his ongoing fitness and injury problems, but outside of that our attacking options leave us stuck to an increasingly archaic 4-4-2 formation and system.

So the two week chase is on, there are plenty of younger lads in the Premier League who would jump at the chance of a run in a first team on loan… That could be where the money is.
