A Wasted Career

What a waste of a footballing career Maceo Rigters has been, four-years at Blackburn Rovers have seen the once bright star fade into nothingness. I’m not for one minute suggesting that this is Rovers’ fault, far from it the blame must lay at the feet of Rigters as he must have been doing something wrong??

Sometimes a Manager doesn’t fancy a player, however, it’s down to the player to then look to change that opinion but it seems as though the Dutchman was either unwilling or unable to do this during his time at Ewood Park.

Loan spells at clubs such as Norwich City, Barnsley and a return to the Netherlands with Willem II were all unsuccessful and he wasn’t even able to prove himself on trial at Southend United!! Such a fall from grace from a former Dutch Under-21 International that was expected to have a bright future ahead of him when he signed for Rovers in 2007 (coming to Rovers under Mark Hughes, joining Rovers instead of Celtic or Newcastle United) after a successful European U-21 Championships, which I think he helped the Netherlands to win that summer??

After only eight appearances for the club he was finally moved on for good when his contract expired in June and he’s now gone to try his hand in Scotland and is to have a trial period with Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen, I wonder if the 27-year-old will ever get his career back on track. What’s gone wrong with the once so talented, much admired and sought after striker??
