The Blackburn Rovers academy system has received a blow with the news that academy coach Eric Kinder has left the club for Carlisle United.

Kinder will now linkup with Carlisle manager Neil McDonald, who himself took over as Carlisle boss in the summer. Kinder and who has left Ewood Park to take up the roles of Head of Youth (overlooking the clubs entire youth set up) as well as being assistant manager of the reserve team had previously worked with McDonald at Preston North End when McDonald was a coach at Deepdale.

It’s a big wrench to leave a club like Blackburn but I just felt this was an opportunity to make the next step in my career.

When I got offered the job with Blackburn it was a dream come true for me because it’s my home town club,” said Kinder who had been a recruitment officer and coach of the under-16 Rovers team.

Kinder added:

But I’m an ambitious person and I couldn’t turn down this opportunity.

I’d like to thank Bobby Downes, Rob Kelly and Gary Bowyer who were all great with me during my time at the Academy.

Without their help and support, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now.”

We will all wish him all the very best for the future and thank him for his efforts during his time at Ewood Park.

Meanwhile whilst on the subject of the academy one of its graduate’s defender Tony Kane made his Republic of Ireland debut at under-21 level on Wednesday evening in the Republic’s friendly with Luxembourg.

Congratulations to 19-year-old Kane, another of Rovers’ very highly rated youngsters. Let’s hope that this is the first of many under-21, and then all being well senior caps he wins with Ireland whilst with us at Rovers.
