The latest is a press release from the BRFC Action Group and contains information relating to Saturday’s activity, prior during and after the 3 pm kick off against Aston Villa.
The supporters of Blackburn Rovers will stage a triple protest march on Saturday 3rd March 2012 prior to the home match against Aston Villa, which will be the largest and most attended demonstration in the history of our club.
Three marches will set off simultaneously from the Havelock Inn, the Golden Cup and Uncle Jacks at 2.10pm before joining together at Ewood Park. These marches will symbolise a vote of ‘no confidence` in Venkys, the current owners of Blackburn Rovers and will carry the message “Venkys sell the club”
One of the options for a potential takeover is the proposed supporter buyout driven by Wayne Wild, the group director of the clubs principal sponsor WEC and plans are in place regarding the distribution of information packs about this initiative through the remainder of this week, leading up to kick off.
“For 137 years Blackburn Rovers has been a way of life for thousands of supporters, a family of which many of us were ‘born into`. Over the course of 15 months the clubs current owners have replaced experienced leadership with inexperience at every level of the football club.
A fantastic network of football administration was dismantled with senior board positions still remaining unfilled over 12 months later. In addition to this we have seen the continued backing of an inexperienced manager who has overseen one of the worst records in our clubs history. In the last month we have witnessed the sale of our team captain and have given away our club captain without adequate replacements being purchased.
On a weekly basis media reports have indicated further senior players will leave the club to raise funds, further suggesting that the clubs long term future has been placed in jeopardy with reckless financial management.
The clubs accounts, which are on public record at companies house are of great concern to the supporters with operating losses at their highest in the history of our club. Whilst Venkys cost cutting measures have disassembled an established premiership playing squad leaving Rovers with one of the smallest in the premier league.
Supporters are also concerned that media reports suggest there will be further cost cutting player sales at the end of the season regardless of which division Blackburn Rovers will be competing in during the 2012/13 season. The events of the last 15 months have gone against the grain of what Venkys pledged when they purchased the club in November 2010. Venkys silence for over 4 months are not the actions of owners who as recent as October claimed Rovers to be “their baby” as the club and supporters have been suffocated by their lack of transparency.
Therefore we feel there is no alternative than to actively seek as supporters, new ownership, although as supporters we understand there must be a willing seller before a feasible purchaser can become a reality. This will not however dampen our supporter`s ambition for clarification from footballs regulatory bodies on how Blackburn Rovers is currently being ran as a professional club in England`s elite division.
Whilst our owners retain their silence the only official voice of the club would appear to be our manager Steve Kean who has used these opportunities to make derogatory comments about supporters whilst playing the victim, this is despite his appalling record as a premier league manager. Although the manager`s failings in his job have brought protests against him both vocally and through a reduction in attendances, these protests continue to have an unblemished record of zero arrests and have always passed without incident, together with the full co-operation of the club and local authorities.
We are everyday supporters who feel we have a duty to the badge which we have supported unconditionally throughout our lives as Blackburn Rovers supporters. It appears in recent months that both the owners and management have strategically tried to put a divide amongst our fan base, turning supporter against supporter in the clubs hour of need. These marches are an opportunity for all supporters to unite together under the Blackburn Rovers umbrella and help protect the club`s legacy and we urge all supporters to stand up as one voice and fight for the very future of Blackburn Rovers football club.
