Rovers Operations Director Paul Agnew has spoken about the much maligned Rovers figureheads trip to India that took place on Monday and Tuesday.

Manager Gary Bowyer, Managing Director Derek Shaw and Global Advisor Shebby Singh were all rumoured (along with Agnew) to be in India at the start of the week to discuss recent goings on at the club and a plan of action going forward.

Since their return there has been little comment from any officials regards the trip and it’s contents, but Agnew has been in touch with the Lancashire Telegraph to explain the nature of the meetings and appeal for a sense of calm as the season reaches a climax.

“We had two meetings,” Agnew told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“Balaji was there with Mrs Desai and Mrs Desai`s husband. There were six people there and we talked about the state of play, which we all know is a situation we wouldn`t ideally like to be in.

“I never saw Shebby Singh at any point while we were there. I don`t think it`s the right time for me to start talking about people I`m working in and around.

“I`ve been a Blackburn Rovers supporter for 50 years and I`ve got no agenda whatsoever, there`s nothing personal at all.

“All I want to do is try to do the best I possibly can to make the club better.

“Football is what matters at a football club. What we`ve got to do is put everything to one side, it`s only about giving whoever the manager is at the moment is to win as many games as we can.”

Some reports had suggested that the Ewood officials were called to India for the meeting, at what would be considered an ill-advised time.

But ‘lifelong fan’ Agnew has clarified that this wasn’t the case.

“We weren`t summoned and I`d like to make that clear,” he said.

“I instigated our meeting because I thought it was appropriate that if Gary was going to be involved in preparing the team, it was only right and proper he should meet the owners, not a telephone conversation but a face to face meeting.

“We put the suggestion to Mrs Desai and she agreed that it was a good idea for us to go together.

“Although they have met Gary in passing in trips to the ground, this was an opportunity to sit down with him and say we know the situation we`re in, you`ve held this position earlier in the season and things went well so here`s all the best.

“Gary has taken on a difficult job at a precarious time and it`s important we`re seen to be absolutely 110 per cent behind him. That was one reason for the trip, to make it clear he had that support.

“We`d never do anything that would harm the team. I was confident once Gary said he felt that was the right thing to do, he`d already organised training around it and he was back in time for training today.

“He was comfortable with that, that was the key. If he`d expressed any concern about that we wouldn`t have done it and the owners wouldn`t have insisted on it either.”
