We can now cross Gareth Ainsworth off the list to become the next Blackburn boss then….

Paul Lambert’s successor is still unclear with one of those linked with the vacancy being former Blackburn youngster Ainsworth. As flattered as he said he is he’s not looking to leave Wycombe.

At 43 Ainsworth is still very young and as much as it would have been an ‘honour’ to take on the post at Ewood Park the Blackburn fan as he was growing up (as he still is) isn’t looking to leave Wycombe for Rovers or anyone else as he’s still got ‘a job to do’ with the Chairboys, with the Lancashire Telegraph quoting him as saying.

‘I`m flattered and honoured to be talked about as a possible candidate for jobs elsewhere and I believe that`s a positive reflection of the work that everyone here has done to turn this club around from where it was two years ago. Of course I have ambitions to be the best I can be and manage at the highest possible level one day, but I`m still young, I`m still learning every day and I have a job to do here at Wycombe.’

With long-term plans to take Wycombe, who missed out on the League 2 play-offs this season, forward he aims to continue in this challenge that excites him, adding.

‘I have loved every second of my time here. With the support of Andrew Howard, which has been immense, as well as my staff and all the fans, we have a long-term plan to take this club on to bigger and better things. That’s a challenge which excites me and I look forward to leading the club into the new season.’
