Allardyce: A Job Well Done

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce discusses his thoughts on victory at Burnley on Sunday with Sky Sports.

The double was completed over our local rivals after a 1-0 win at Turf Moor following David Dunn’s successful conversion from a controversially awarded penalty (for a foul on Martin Olsson by Brian Jensen). Allardyce thought it was a foul (even if it looked soft) and was surprised that action wasn’t taken against Jensen.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “From where I was sitting in the stand it looked as though he had brought him down.

“We are all wondering why he didn’t get booked or sent off but I think he (the referee) was unclear whether it was the defender or the goalkeeper who had brought him down.

“In the end we have won on a penalty and deservedly so, as apart from a couple of incidents they didn’t create a chance.

Olsson (who was accused of diving by Burnley manager Brian Laws) was singled out as being the Man of the Match by Big Sam for his overall display, in a match that also saw him hit the crossbar and have a goal disallowed (wrongly) for offside.

He added: “As for me, my man of the match Martin Olsson created havoc in the Burnley defence time and time again.

“We are very pleased, the dressing room is very happy and the players are very happy.

It might have been a controversial penalty, however, personally I think that we deserved the win over our rivals who are now left in even bigger trouble in their battle to avoid Premier League relegation, something I can’t see them doing. However, our own survival is virtually assured now isn’t it??
