Rovers boss Sam Allardyce, who is under pressure to turn in better performances and results from his side, has been backed to do just that by Martin O’Neill.

The two men go head to head tonight in the crunch Carling Cup Semi Final first leg, but taken out of the context of tonight’s game, the man known as MON believes Rovers can’t go wrong with the man we already have.

O’Neill, speaking to Sky Sports said – ‘I would absolutely back Blackburn Rovers.

‘I didn’t realise they had not won for so many games, but I wouldn’t think with Sam in charge they will have any problems.

‘I don’t know anything about him being under pressure, but we’re all only a couple of games away from a crisis.

‘That has been proven, not just recently, but over the last number of years.

‘It’s a precarious enough job, but at the end of it all, we’re all just two results away from potential disaster.’

Pretty wise words to be fair from Martin O’Neill – hopefully when he says two resulst away from potential disaster he means Villa losing both legs of the semi… we can but hope!
