Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has dismissed speculation linking Rovers with a move for Amr Zaki.

The Egyptian International isn’t going to be joining Wigan Athletic permanently after a season long loan at the JJB Stadium and this has seen him linked with a move to Ewood Park (among others) but Allardyce has ruled this out.

Allardyce told Sky Sports News (when asked about Zaki): “There’s nothing in that one, no.

Zaki isn’t a player that I’d want us to sign anyway as he’s had plenty of run-ins with Wigan manager Steve Bruce and another volatile striker like the Egyptian isn’t what we need or want. If we signed him he’d only need a good season (maybe even half season) then he’d be up to his tricks again!!!

Matt Derbyshire continues to be linked with a permanent move to Olympiakos after a successful loan with the Greek side but Big Sam revealed that no offer has been made for the England Under-21 International yet, and even if it does it doesn’t mean he’ll be going.

He added: “It depends what Olympiakos are considering to make us an offer.

“Other than that, until we see that offer, we wouldn’t know whether we’re going to let Matt go there or not.

“We haven’t received an official offer from them, so until we do then he’s still a Blackburn Rovers player.

Derbs isn’t going to return to Ewood this summer, even if he did this would only be a temporary move before another English club took him on. I personally feel Derbs was shown the door permanently when he was allowed to leave on loan at a time when we really needed all the strikers we could!!!

Roque Santa Cruz is another that Big Sam said isn’t going anywhere (no matter what the Paraguayan wants) unless the amount that we have agreed he can leave for is met, with it understood this amount is around £18 million.

Big Sam also said: “Like I have said before, the Roque situation is that, from the last game of the season, if somebody hits the figure in his contract we can’t hold onto him.

“If nobody hits that figure, he’s a Blackburn Rovers player and I’d be delighted.

We’ll get interest in Santa Cruz and hopefully we can get enough to let him leave as having players contracted to you that don’t want to be with you isn’t going to help anyone so the sooner we can get rid of the striker the better as far as I’m concerned!!! We can also then use that money to help rebuild the squad the way Big Sam wants it rebuilt.
