Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce was delighted with a massive three points on Wednesday Evening as Rovers came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1.

When Clint Dempsey gave Fulham a second minute lead at Craven Cottage many might have feared the worse but El Hadji Diouf (with his first goal since his transfer from Sunderland) equalised in the second half before Jason Roberts made up for his miss against Everton on Saturday to muscle his way through and score in the closing minutes. Allardyce was not only delighted with the victory (a massive victory as Allardyce put it), but the manor of it pleased him as we came back from such a poor start to fully deserve the win in the end.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “It was a massive victory and I think a well-deserved one. It’s not just the victory; it’s the manner of the win.

“The way we started the game and gave Fulham a goal in such a sloppy fashion made life extremely difficult for us but we fought our way back and showed some great quality with our finishing in the end.

Big Sam also had praise for the match winner Roberts, who delivered on his promise to find goals and not let missed opportunities trouble him. Following this win we moved onto 30 points and moved up several places and now a target of ten more points (so Rovers can reach 40 points) has now been set.

He added: “It shows what a difference it makes when we’re playing a catch-up game and that makes the three points even more important and, of course, it drags a lot more teams – tenth, ninth, eighth – closer to us.

“It’s three more points towards the survival total and that’s looking like 40 to me – so 10 points to go.

We now travel to Arsenal on Saturday afternoon knowing that a point (which we would take) will be enough to keep us out of the relegation zone, so it’ll be battle mode!!!
