Blackburn Rover manager Sam Allardyce feels that Christopher Samba was the victim of a “naughty” elbow by Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll on Saturday.

Samba took an elbow from the Newcastle youngster during Rovers’ 3-0 win at Ewood Park on Saturday and Allardyce felt that it was a nasty knock, which leaves him sweating over the defender.

Allardyce is quoted on Setanta Sports as saying: “I thought it was a bit nasty the elbow.

“It was an elbow from young Andy Carroll which was I think a bit naughty.

“Chris can’t see through his right eye, it looks like he’s gone 15 rounds with Ricky Hatton at the moment.

“I just hope that the eye socket is intact because it looked a nasty injury that one.

The Wall could be facing a spell on the sidelines if the eye socket has been damaged, and Big Sam also has concerns over skipper Ryan Nelsen after he also sustained an eye injury. Nelsen suffered a cut above his eye a few weeks ago, and on Saturday he took a knock above the other eye that needed stitches.

He added: “Ryan Nelsen had about four stitches in his other eye this time, so he looks like he’s done a few rounds as well.

“But our defenders stood up well again, and that is very important, they gave us the platform to win the game.

Nelsen, however, shouldn’t be a doubt at all for the FA Cup meeting with Sunderland.
