Following defeat against Manchester City on Saturday Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has now targeted a win over Portsmouth on Saturday to secure Premier League safety.

Safety is still in our own hands and victory in the crucial match with Portsmouth at Ewood Park on Saturday would secure this, and Allardyce is targeting this.

Allardyce said: “We need to control our own destiny by winning, not rushing to the TV hoping the other teams have slipped up, as we have done.

“We want to make sure we get three points next week. If we do that it will be in the bag and we won’t have to rely on what other people do
.”

Relying on what you do is the best thing to do when you’re in relegation trouble, and victory over Portsmouth (who don’t travel very well) would secure this, with us currently six points above the drop zone, defeat would leave us nervous (depending on other results) going into the final two matches.
