Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce wasn’t disappointed (that much) by our defeat against Manchester City, however, he was disappointed at missed chances that cost us.

An early goal from Man City debutant Emmanuel Adebayor and an injury-time second from Stephen Ireland confirmed a 2-0 win for Man City at Ewood Park with former Rovers goalkeeper Shay Given forced into at least two very good saves.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “Shay Given’s pulled off some very good saves, which you’d expect him to do, but perhaps not quite so many in the first 45 minutes.

“We fell for the early goal, which was a great finish but a little unfortunate with Stephen Warnock slipping.

The performance gave Allardyce plenty to be happy with but performances are not really any good without results to go with them, something that also wasn’t lost on Big Sam.

He added: “I’m certainly not too discouraged by the performance.

“But we’re in the results business so I’m disappointed that we didn’t turn a good performance into a result.

“At the very least, I think we should have had a draw out of this game. We’ve done our best to score, certainly in the first half.

If you miss chances it often costs you as we found out, however, we’ve started OKAY (even if we lost) but need to take our chances!!
