Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce discusses his thoughts on our victory over Fulham on Sunday with Sky Sports.

Allardyce was delighted to see us end a run on nine Premier League matches without a win with a 2-0 win over Fulham at Ewood Park, however, he admits that he was happy to get this as we (in that match and in general) were starting to feel the pressure (as could be seen on Sunday).

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “People will look back at the last nine games or so and finally we’ve got that win.

“After the run that we’ve had it’s nice to get a win. It was just too many draws in there and it so easily could have been those draws converted into wins with last minute chances that we’ve wasted and all of a sudden the pressure heaps upon you.

“We felt the pressure today there’s no doubt about that.

The opening goal was a scrappy one and Big Sam also admits that it was fortunate, however, he feels this isn’t the sort of fortune that we’ve been getting recently so it was a welcome change.

He added: “But then we got the first goal which is what we were looking for, and for the first time for a long time the bounce of the ball going for us.

“I think that on the corner, which we’ll all admit was a poor corner, and it bounces back off Damien Duff on the line and Chris Samba finishes it off. That sort of bounce we haven’t seen for a long time and in fairness to Chris he’s put it in the back of the net and that settled us down.

The timing of the second goal (which killed off Fulham) also pleased Allardyce, however, he was especially pleased with the defensive display and knows that ultimately winning is the most important thing in football however you get it!!

Big Sam also said: “What was important for me was a good, solid defensive unit today and the goalkeeper coming up with a save or two when we needed it.

“In the end it’s not about how you win a game of football it’s just making sure you’ve got to win it.

“Today it was probably an even game, in spells Fulham were better than we were.

This was a win that was really needed for everyone and the pressure would’ve grown even more had it not come. Now that it has we’ll be hoping that it can lead to plenty more victories?!
