Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce was given a lift ahead of his heart surgery with our first away win of the Premier League season.

Rovers assistant manager Neil McDonald overlooked first-team affairs while Allardyce prepared to undergo heart surgery, however, the Rovers boss was delighted with our performance in the 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers and this also helped make him feel better.

Allardyce told The Sun: “I’m delighted we got the three points and a clean sheet. It certainly made me feel better.

“I was pleased with our performance.

Big Sam will definitely miss our Premier League matches against Fulham and Stoke City in the next seven days but is understood to think that he’ll be back in the dugout in time for Rovers’ Carling Cup Quarter-Final match with Chelsea.

He added: “I’m optimistic I’ll be back to work soon.

The most important thing for Big Sam is that he relaxes and doesn’t rush back to work to soon. We’ll miss him and he’ll miss us but the last thing anyone wants is for him to comeback to soon and cause any serious problems. The Doctors will monitor him and make sure that he’ll only return when he’s ready.
