Blackburn’s proposed signing of Efe Ambrose from Celtic is in doubt with Rovers awaiting an FA ruling regarding a work permit being issued to the Nigerian international.
Ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline the Ambrose arrived to complete a transfer to Blackburn with his ‘intermediary’ quoted by owngoalnigeria.com as saying.
‘We are in England right now as we speak. He will undergo a medical very soon and the move will be made official. The paperworks are presently been handled by both teams, it should beat the deadline hopefully. Efe is happy, it`s a fresh start for him.’
The BBC reports the Scottish FA are saying the paperwork was complete before the 11pm deadline – so this isn’t the issue – but his failure to meet the FA’s criteria could prevent this proposed transfer as a work permit might not be issued?
Ambrose had featured only twice for Nigeria last year and three times the year before that whereas he would have to had featured – owing to the Nigerians being ranked 50th in the world – in 75% of his countries internationals to meet the necessary criteria.
Blackburn are now playing the waiting game for the 28 year old defender who may or may not have sealed a deadline day switch to Ewood Park afterall!
