An Interview With Vital Bolton

Richard McCormick took a bit of time out of his busy day to talk to me ahead of the derby game on Saturday. I asked a few questions, he answered them. You know how it works.

So its a derby game on Saturday, how do you think Bolton are shaping up this season?

We`re very much a work in progress. It could go either way. Johan Elmander looked good in the first match of the season, but he`s been injured since and isn`t fully fit yet. Fabrice Muamba has shown a few good touches but isn`t involved enough. The win at West Ham gives us hope but we need to reproduce that form on a consistent basis.

Who do you rank as your most fiercest rivals in terms of a ‘derby’?

I`m not sure we have that much of a local rivalry with anyone. Some Bolton fans hate Manchester United, but that`s like a Chihuahua disliking a Rottweiler. The Rotty won`t be losing any sleep over it, especially if Rob Styles is around. Wigan hate us, but we just laugh at them. So that leaves Blackburn. They`re close by and a similarly sized club. The fixtures between the two aren`t as intense as they used to be but hopefully the cheap ticket scheme will help put that right.

Any players Blackburn should be particularly mindful of?

Ricardo Gardner is in his best form for ages, providing he comes back from the international break in one piece.

Who from the Blackburn side do you think will cause Bolton the most problems?

I went to the League Cup game at Ewood between Blackburn and Everton and was impressed with Carlos Villanueva. (Aren’t we all so far? – Mikey)

What do you make of Gary Megson?

The jury is out. He seems like a decent enough chap, but he doesn`t strike you as an inspirational manager and his tactics are overly negative.

First impressions of Paul Ince?

Interesting. There is a lack of proven managerial talent around, so appointing someone who has proved himself in the lower leagues is a logical step. He`s managed to retain most of the squad so far, so I expect Rovers to stay out of trouble. However from what I`ve seen they seem a little suspect defensively.

Can I get a prediciton?

Bolton win. It`s eight years since we beat you at home and I expect that to be rectified.
