Blackburn Rovers defender Andre Ooijer is happy to be back playing, having been out since January with a broken leg.

The Dutch International captain got off to a nightmare start to his career at Ewood Park, but found his feet (as I, and others knew he would!) to establish himself as a VITAL part of the Rovers defence, until injury ruled him out for the rest of the season. It was feared he would be missed immensely, but Christopher Samba stepped up to the place to form a formidable partnership with Ryan Nelsen.

Having returned to training over the summer, the 32-year-old has played his part in Pre-Season, and scored on Sunday. However, the form of Samba and Nelsen makes it likely that The Wall and God will form the first choice centre-back pairing, so he will be looking mostly at playing in a right-back berth this season?!?!

However, Ooijer is just happy to be back playing again after the frustration of the injury layoff, and he has set his sights on a place in the starting XI that take on FK Vetra in the Intertoto Cup on Sunday.

Ooijer told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website:

It’s great to be back after six months out.

“I played a half against Wrexham last week and then another 80 minutes against Bielefeld, so I’m still building up, but it’s getting better every time I play and every time I train.

“I don’t feel any pain in my leg anymore, so that’s the most important thing.

“I really hope I’m ready for the Intertoto. My leg is ready, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

“It’s been frustrating because you just want to play. I came to Blackburn and after the start I had, I felt I was just getting up to my normal level when I broke my leg
.”
