Rovers have been rebuffed in their attempts to speak to Michael Appleton about the current permanent vacancy at Ewood Park.

It was announced last night via the Rovers official website that the club had made an approach to speak to the relatively new Blackpool boss about another job switch, which has this morning been knocked back.

Derek Shaw and Paul Agnew (codename – Shagnew) are the people behind the strange move that involved announcing a manager pursuit before it had been concluded on the club website.

Quite what current caretaker Gary Bowyer thinks of all this is open to debate but the players all appear to be ready made fans of the current temporary manager with Martin Olsson the latest to push for a longer rain for the former Reserve and Youth team boss.

Olsson told the Lancashire Telegraph – “Gary is putting his name forward with this run of results. Everyone loves him at the club so that is a good thing. The feedback he gives us helps us all out.

“I am very happy with Gary in charge, I have known him since I was 17. I have learnt a lot of things from him and he is still giving me feedback now.

“I have only good things to say about him. We will see how long he is here but I have only good things to say about him at the moment.

“He trusts all his players and he has told us to go out there and express ourselves. Everyone has done that and it is looking good.”

Don’t expect this knock back to be the end of the Appleton issue, it’s fairly standard practice and is unlikely to draw a line under it.
