Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray was hopeful, confident even, of another player or two linking up with the Rovers squad during the training camp in Austria.

However, for various reasons, it wasn’t to be.

Reading forward Dominic Samuel was strongly linked with Blackburn as the squad set off for Austria. Whatever deal(s) Mowbray hoped for couldn’t be signed off but the boss feels a couple are ‘pretty close.’

Mowbray told the Official Website: ‘I would have hoped that we would have secured a signing or two to have come over and joined us. But it didn’t quite happen during the week for various reasons back home, but I’m pretty sure they are pretty close as well.’

The one he really anticipated joining Blackburn’s training camp was ‘out of our hands’ and nothing more could have been done – he doesn’t feels those working on the deals Rovers’ end could have put in greater effort than they have though.

‘The one that I would have hoped to have had over here it is out of our hands. We have done everything that we can do. But there is no frustration, everybody behind the scenes is working extremely hard at trying to put together a squad that can be very competitive in this division.’

But the boss is happy with how the squad is coming along and remains confident there will be further signings coming to Ewood Park in the next three or four week.

‘I think it is coming together and I hope there are some more exciting signings for the supporters over the next three or four weeks.’
