Gordon Banks thinks that Rovers shot stopper Paul Robinson should be in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup in South Africa.

He even thinks that Robbo should go in place of Joe Hart due to their relative experience on the national stage.

Banks, speaking at the launch of England ‘Pride, Passion, Party` World Cup merchandise said – “Robinson has had a decent season. Blackburn haven`t done all that great, but when I`ve seen him play he has done well. He has had to.

“He might have let in a goal or two in the games I`ve watched. But from what I could see none of them were his fault.

“He`s not done too bad and he deserves to be back in with a shout.”

Big Sam Allardyce has recently backed the cause of Robinson (Who does look set to miss out on one of the three spots available) as in recent months Robbo has been in fine form.

And Banks has now put his weight into the argument.

Super Gordon continued – “I would take Robinson in place of Hart because he has got the experience.

“He would be calm walking out for a game and that is important on the world stage.

“I like Hart very much, he is a terrific prospect. In fact Joe is the one who, for me, has been the most consistent.

“But the trouble with Joe is that he hasn`t played for England yet apart from half a game in a friendly against Trinidad & Tobago.

“It would be very hard for a manager to take a risk on employing someone at the World Cup finals who has never even started a game for England.”

Personally I think that Gordon has got it wrong in part here.

Robbo should go the World Cup but he should take Joe Hart as well – drop one of Green and James to make way.
