Former Rovers academy boy and well travelled journeyman James Beattie has revealed that he pushed for a Rovers return in the summer when it appeared that Sam Allardyce and his crew were in for him.

Beattie was sought after by quite a few clubs after falling out with Tony Pulis at Stoke back in January of 2010 and was tipped to make a re-appearance at his first club by many.

But the move didn’t materialise and Beattie went up more North than he had bargained for with a move to Rangers – this didn’t work out at all well and Beattie now plies his trade for Saturday’s opponents Blackpool.

But James has explained that Rovers was his first choice.

“There was a chance that it could have happened,” Beattie told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“I remember speaking to Sam but the opportunity didn`t arise, which was unfortunate.

“I was trying everything to get there and they were in for me, but for one reason or another it didn`t happen. I don`t know why.

“But I`m a Blackpool player now and I`m happy to be there and happy to help the club stay up in the Premier League, which is the ultimate goal.

“For these few months that`s what I`m going to do and then we`ll reassess it in the summer.”

Would he have been better then our current crop of strikers? Would that even be difficult?!
