Benni Knows We Are In Need

Benni McCarthy has asked for increased competition for the rovers froward line as the Blue and Whites get increasingly desperate for the goal machine that we so badly need.

The South African has seen two strikers leave for pastures new this pre-season and wants a man who can ‘do it all’ up front to add that extra to the team.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has been like a raving tiger in the transfer market as he looks for the big name signing that all the Rovers fans crave.

And McCarthy has been the first man from the striking line up to admit we need further options.

Benni Mac, speaking to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph said – ‘We need extra and that little bit more quality to raise our game,’

‘I know my strength and Jason Roberts knows his strength and we know we really complement each other.

‘Maybe the manager will pick me for some games because of what I have over Jason and in other games maybe he will pick Jason for what he has over me.

‘We don’t have that player that has the qualities of both of us. That is what we had with Roque.

‘Roque had what I could do and what Jason could do and that is why he was the ideal striker.’

That is praise indeed for the injured, sulky Paraguayan but it is also suprising to see Benni talk perfect sense for a change!

Furthermore Benni seems to have kept his ego in check when it comes to team before me, something he has not always been great at in the past.

To reinforce that team spirit, McCarthy continued – ‘With a bit of luck we can get that again. I don’t know who but I would be glad to get a good name player to bring something new to the team – and a lot of goals.

‘If we can get one more quality striker and if it means one of us has to sacrifice then we would rather that as long as we win games and keep ourselves in the top half of the league.’

Wise words indeed.
