Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy has signed and sealed a new deal with Blackburn Rovers that will take his stay with the club up to 2011.

South African striker McCarthy has ended months of negotiation by signing his new contract at Ewood Park. This hopefully will galvanise him to repeat last season’s form as this season has been somewhat of a dissapointment.

However the fact remains that he is a quality player.

And Hughes admits that the former Porto star’s decision to commit his future to the club has left him with no need to add to his attacking options this summer.

Conversing with rovers.co.uk, Hughes stated: ‘The talks with Benni have gone on for a long time, but these things take a hell of a lot longer than they used to.

‘The fact he has signed means we are pretty solid with our attacking options, so this is the first time for many years that I won’t be in the market for a striker.

‘There was a lot of speculation last summer because he had an outstanding year with us. But we’re delighted that he has settled down and now want to get him back to the level he was this time last year.’

Instead expect Hughes to sign a couple of midfielders, a new right back and of course… a goalkeeper.
