Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy has had a turbulent International career with South Africa in recent years, but now back in the fold he became his countries record goalscorer on Saturday.

McCarthy scored his record 29th International goal for South Africa on Saturday, but he could not prevent his country losing 3-1 to Zambia as Rovers’ Aaron Mokoena captained the side. South Africa were beaten but they have still qualified for the African Cup of Nations as one of three best placed runners-up, so this means Rovers will be losing both McCarthy and Mokoena to the tournament early in 2008.

However, Christopher Samba WILL NOT be lost as Congo failed to make the Finals, so although this is very unfortunate for him and his country this is VERY GOOD news for Rovers.
