Blackburn Rovers’ South African hitman Benni McCarthy’s wish of being paired with Celta Vigo or even Ajax in the UEFA cup has…
…not been granted! Ahead of the draw, which took place this morning Benni had said:
“If I was picking I would love to get Celta Vigo, certainly ahead of Ajax.
“Celta Vigo are perhaps a little more predictable and it would probably be easier playing them than Ajax – not that any game will be easy.
“It is great to get through to the group stages and we hope we can give a good account ourselves. Things are looking very good.”
If Benni is to face either of his former employers it will now have to be in the knockout stages should all, if any advance, although with Rovers’ Group E opponents Mark Hughes would fancy his sides chances of finishing in the top three. Rovers have been drawn with Feyenoord, Basle, Wisla Krakow and Nancy.

Meanwhile The Admiral Ryan Nelsen has got to the bottom of his injury problem (sorry, terrible pun I know!); shedding some light on the procedure he underwent to finally cure his long standing hamstring injury:
“My hamstring muscle had turned to fat through inactivity and dropped.
“So once the doctor saw the problem he drilled a couple of holes in the bone in my backside and made three anchorage points.
“He pulled the hamstring straight up into the anchorage point where it is meant to be then tied all together. Then he sewed me back up!“
