Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has quickly spoken on Benni McCarthy’s injury, saying that it is not serious. However, he is doubtful for Wednesday.

McCarthy was forced off after only eight minutes of Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Fulham with a knee injury. Initial fears were that it could be quite serious but Hughes has quickly dispelled this, but it is unlikely that he will be available for Wednesday Evening’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Ewood Park.

Hughes told the Lancashire Telegraph: “Benni’s got a bang and a gash just below the knee and it’s obviously very painful at the moment.

“There’s no ligament damage, thankfully, it’s just a really sore injury and we are hopeful he will be okay for selection for Wednesday.

“But I have to say at this point he’s probably doubtful for that
.”

Should McCarthy miss out it would be a blow but the return of Jason Roberts, and him coming through eighty plus minutes was a plus point so both Roberts and Roque Santa Cruz will definitely be available.

Another plus point was the fact that Steven Reid got on for the final minute, plus injury time on Sunday.
