Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams is confident that David Bentley will sign a new deal at Ewood Park.

The England midfielder is currently negotiating new terms. And Williams told BBC Radio Lancashire: ‘There is no problem as far as I can foresee.

‘We have a number of contracts ongoing including David’s and as far as I’m concerned there’s no bad news on the horizon.’

Bentley, whose current deal runs until 2011, has made 123 appearances since joining from Arsenal in August 2005.

The 23-year-old, who has been named in Fabio Capello’s latest England squad, made his full international debut as a substitute in the Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel last September.

Williams says contract talks with other key players are also ongoing.

‘I have no reason to believe at this moment in time that we won’t secure the services of the players we want,’ he added.

‘Most of our players I’m pleased to say are under contract for a good amount of time but sometimes it’s appropriate to try and renew those.’

Lets hope he speaks the truth. Tying these players down – especially David Bentley – will ensure more progress next year.
