Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley will FINALLY complete his move to Tottenham Hotspur within the next 24-hours.

With previous bids placed for the England International by Aston Villa and Tottenham, all of which were rejected Spurs have returned with an acceptable one, which is understood to be close to £18 million (although this has been undisclosed, and will probably remain that way!) Bentley has undergone a successful medical with Spurs and most probably agreed terms and the understanding is he will be unveiled at a press conference that has been arranged for Thursday morning.

Rovers will be receiving a sizable amount from Spurs, however, a percentage of this money received will have to be given to Arsenal in accordance to the agreement that saw Bents to Ewood Park in the first place. Quite how much this will be is not known. The rest will hopefully be given to Paul Ince to ensure that we can maintain our challenge for a UEFA Cup spot this season, which should still be the aim despite the loss of Bents and Brad Friedel.

I will be glad when this deal is finally confirmed as it has dragged on for FAR to long. I appreciate all that Bents has done for us during his time here but he leaves with me more than a little disappointed at the lack of loyalty that he has shown Rovers after ALL the support and backing that we have given him. The day was always likely to come when he left Ewood, but with all due respect to Spurs (and I’m not looking for this “we’re bigger and better than you” debate with Spurs fans) this move isn’t the sort of move that I expected him to make when deciding that the time was right to leave us, as in reality he isn’t really making that much of a step forward, some might argue he isn’t making a step forward at all!!! However, we will receive good money for him, now he has to prove at White Hart Lane that he was worth it.
