Blackburn Rovers have received a massive boost in the shape of David Bentley committing his future to the club until the summer of 2011.

Bentley who has been in the form of his life this season has been tipped time and time again for an England call-up with some reports linking Manchester United with a move for the youngster, but following a fantastic season thus far Bentley is happy to commit his future further to Rovers and has signed a two-year contract extension. Speaking to Sky Sports News Bentley said:

In a couple of months of negotiations, I’m really happy it’s been sorted out.

I’m just looking to kick on in my career, hopefully I’ll improve as a player and get better, and hopefully the benefits will be for Blackburn.

You see what happens on a Saturday, I enjoy the game and I enjoy coming into the building every day.

I’m in a good place in my life at the minute and I didn’t want to change that.”

Thanks in no small part to Bentley we made an impact on Europe this season, as we are again in the Premiership and all being well will continue to in the FA Cup. He has enjoyed this and wants to continue being a part of a club moving forward, he also said:

There’s quality in the team, we’ve got quality, determined players who want to improve.

The management staff are all pushing in the right direction.

We’ve been a bit unlucky with injuries this year and hopefully next season we are really going to make a push.”

Obviously the Rovers hierarchy of Manager Mark Hughes and Chairman John Williams are both delighted, Hughes said:

David has really blossomed this season to produce a consistently high level of performance. He is a great talent with a big future and we are delighted to have signed him up for the long term.”

Whilst Williams added:

David is widely regarded as one of the best young footballers in the country and this represents a very significant deal for the club, underpinning our determination to continue to move forward with ambition.”

It really does indicate just the kind of ambition the club have to be able to persuade players of the calibre of Bentley that his long term future is at Ewood Park, it also shows that players know what is possible.
