Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce was delighted with the second half performance and the result gained in the 2-2 draw with Bolton Wanderers at Ewood Park on Wednesday evening.

Rovers fought back from two-nil down at half time to pick up a point against his former side, stretching Allardyce’s unbeaten run to seven matches since his arrival in the Ewood hot seat.

Allardyce said after the match: “I have to say – what a performance!

“The players showed character and commitment to get us back into the game.

“The quality we showed and the pressure we kept on asserting ultimately won us a point today.

Roque Santa Cruz was introduced at half time and other tactical changes made, which helped, but Big Sam (even though he was pleased with the point) was still left slightly disappointed that Rovers couldn’t have gone on and won, with a missed Benni McCarthy penalty one of the chances spurned before he did equalise.

He added: “The tactical change at half-time and the substitutions certainly helped.

“Obviously the disappointing thing for us is that we couldn’t go on to take all three points.

“It’s a precious point for us and from a confidence point of view that’s very important.
