Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce is excited at the prospect of working with Yildiray Basturk.

The Turkish International joined Rovers from Stuttgart on Wednesday until the end of the season and Allardyce is hoping that the midfielder will replicate the form shown in England that has been shown in the German Bundesliga recently.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “If he can reproduce the form he has shown in Germany, then we’re looking forward to him playing here.

“The lad is committed. He wants to play in the Premier League, and we’re going to give him the chance.

Big Sam has a track record (with Bolton Wanderers) of picking up the strays that no one else wanted and Basturk is someone that he hopes proves to be the latest one.

He added: “I hope he is one of those gems I used to find at the old club down the road (Bolton) because he certainly has the quality and ability.

“What we’ve got is someone who has been cast off at the club he was at, and he wants to test his ability in the Premier League.

“I’ve had many of those so-called mercenaries in the past like Jay-Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff, Fernando Hierro, Ivan Campo, Bruno N’Gotty, Stelios Giannakopoulos, and they’ve all been outstandingly good players in the Premier League.

One thing that is certain about the Turkish midfielder is he does have the ability and has shown this on the club and International stage, however, Big Sam isn’t going to throw him straight into the fold he’ll do this gradually in the coming weeks at first. Personally I think that Basturk will do a superb job for Rovers!!

  • Was a real quality player when at his best; let’s hope he still has it in him. Will give Dunny some competition for that advanced midfield role and should be a useful addition to the squad when we revert to one up front for certain games.

  • Interesting strategy signing older experienced players to cover the short term and young players to break in for the longer term? I we see we also have a new young midfielder from France today – Amine on a free transfer. Alongside Kallanic, N’Zonzi, Hoillett and Ollson – with Jones and Gunning etc waiting in the wings – are we beginning to see the signs of a cunning plan to rebuild a younger team with more pace and vigour?? There certainly seems to be more youth around Ewood this seaon. Promising signs for next season?

  • Jury out on this one, would love to know what we are paying him, was great in his day, but fell out with a few managers and not seen an awful lot of football in recent years,
Will he be up for the prem???
Reminds me alot of the signings of baggio and the swiss player that never really played so i cnt think of his name of top of my mind lol

  • Good point York, wityh players like Olsson, Hoilett, Kalinic, Jones and Gunning in the ranks, we have a very solid future ahead of us… the players over 30 will slowly peter out!!!
