Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce was not happy with the postponement of the Rovers match at Fulham on Saturday, more so due to the fact that this actually happened so late.

Plenty of matches in England were postponed over the weekend but Rovers’ trip to Fulham’s Craven Cottage was one of only two Premier League matches postponed, the other being Portsmouth’s match against Manchester City at Fratton Park. Allardyce was under the impression that under-soil heating was mandatory for all Premier League clubs, but as Craven Cottage (and Fratton Park) doesn’t have this it meant measures to get the match to go ahead were more likely to fail due to the big freeze that has hit England, and eventually the match was called-off.

Allardyce said: “I thought it was mandatory for all clubs in the Premier League. If not, it should be.

“I don’t want to cause trouble over this but the call-off is a big disappointment to me and the players
.

The postponement didn’t come until 1.30pm, so this was only one-and-a-half hours before kick-off with most Rovers fans already in London by the time this announcement was made. For the match to have been called-off so late left Allardyce disappointed for the fans as much as anything else.

He added: “We are upset on behalf of the fans who followed us here. It’s a long way to come for a call-off. We were 15 minutes from Craven Cottage when we heard.

A Premier League enquiry will now be held into this postponement (and the Portsmouth one).
