Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has spoken out today due to comments made by Republic Of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni about Steven Reids’ international future.

Comments were made earlier this week by the ROI head honco about Steven Reid’s injury status and how he felt the Rovers midfielder would never recover – despite the fact Reidy is only weeks away from a full return!

Naturally this has not sat well with ‘shrinking violet’ Allardyce who has stuck the knife in.

Big Sam, speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire said – ‘It’s completely out of order,’

‘What he [Trapattoni] is talking about is completely untrue and it’s something he should apologise for.’

Reid admitted he was disappointed by Trapattoni’s presumption and wants the matter sorted.

Reid also spoke to BBC radio Lancashire – ‘I feel there’s a few issues which need to be put right,’

‘I missed the last couple of squads with tendonitis in the Achilles and a small hamstring injury, but my knee has been good for the last couple of months.

‘I’ve played a few games behind closed doors as well as the two Carling Cup games and the knee came through fine.

‘I’ve said before how much I’ve enjoyed playing under Mr Trapattoni and the three games I played under him were probably my best.

‘He showed a lot of confidence in me in centre midfield and I felt that I really started to make that position my own.’

Reidy was out injured for the whole of 2008/09 and has been written off by many fans as a waste of time due to his constant niggles and pulls.

But, after returning to action in the early weeks of this season, he is hopeful of getting regular football again for club and country in the near future.

Sam had the final word as he continued – ‘Steven’s had a long haul, Dr Richard Steadman is trying to resurrect his career to secure a new contract for Steven.

‘He wants to go and play for his country as he’s done many times and he’s given his all every time he’s been there.

‘There’s not a more honest player you could meet than Steven, and to be dealt that sort of blow at this time he’s very disappointed, to say the least.’

Big, big call by Sam to strike out here as this could damage relations with Steven Reid and Keith Andrews international boss!
