Samuel Allardyce is still not ready to throw Croatian Nikola Kalinic in at the deep end with a run of Premier League starts.

Niko, as the fans like to call him, has been getting more and more impressive as a front man at Rovers after a poor start to his £6 million move to Blackburn in the summer.

But despite a good showing and a desperately unlucky run in front of goal – Allardyce is wary of voer using the youngster, still 20.

Allardyce said: “Nikola`s performance on Thursday might suggest that he is ready for a run in the side.

“But I`m still wary of the fact that if he doesn`t score then his confidence might go and never return.

“We didn`t really bring him here to be our top man this season. The aim is to bring him on slowly.”

I think Sam is making an error here. To me, Kalinic has looked a real threat whenever he has played.

You may take a knock to the confidence when you don’t score but you can also make a man by giving him a chance to sink or swim.

Nikola has ‘future Rovers legend’ written all over him… let him play!

  • Sam, got to play him, before you don’t even get the chance. There are more fans calling for your head now, but i’m not one of them. Screw up the fulham game, the pressure will be unbelivable.

Come on, 442 or 4312, is the way to go…

  • How stupid of sam… a lack of goals, nd hes not gonna play our most promising striker…. let him play, before his confidence is totally gone by the fact Jason Roberts is ahead of him in the pecking order!

  • 12 games without a win, terrible performances, the team confidence is down, morale is down, we badly need a win on Sunday. Play our best strikers, play some attacking football, before it’s too late, Sam.. Comeon!

  • After Thursday’s performance Kallanic deserves to start against Fulham – I think he needs a bit of a run to settle in – hopefully get some goals. With another game on Wenesday I suspect that BSA will use him for part of the match to keep him fit for Villa. This is not the time to lose nerve – it’s not the time to even discuss managerial changes – some supporters seem hell bent on Rovers self destruction and a dismal defeat tommorrow is only going to further damage the team’s confidence and the resultant pressure from some quarters could be very damaging.

  • sams kalinic is ur last chance. If we lose on sunday i c and emergency board meeting to decide on his future.A thrashing at fulhum and hes gone. The time has come john where u start lookin at other managers incase u have to pull the plug……………….get sparky back on ur spd dial

  • how bout i pull the trigger on sam? cheers for covering me delap, sas is back for the weekend, then back off to summer uni!!!, il do tonights report

  • losing confidence in Sam right now, the fans dont sing as much as theres nothing to sing about, long ball long ball, long ball, and we only start really playing when we go 1 or two goals down. We need goals and wins, simple as that. Mark hughes blue and white army was sang at the villa game, just goes to show how many people have lost confidence

  • Kali needs reps. Bad luck evens out with reps. He’s talented and that’s obvious. We just need to give him the support up front so he’s not run ragged every week without getting the reward of quality chances.

  • lol good point 23 and what i sam thinkin there also a chance that sittin kalinic on the bench will make him start thinkin hes not good enough. i mean givin him first team will give him the confidence that he needs to put them in the back of the net

  • Sam doesn’t want to play a young Niko as he’s not scoring and doesn’t want to destroy his confidence – so instead he plays a young DiSanto who isn’t scoring which is destroying his confidence! Well at least he’s not our player! However, this is more the reason to start with Benni… isn’t it?
