Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid made his return to Premier League football on Sunday much to the delight of Sam Allardyce.

When Reid left Ewood Park to join Queens Park Rangers on loan until the end of 2009 many people thought that we might’ve seen the last of the midfielder, however, even this loan was troubled by injury and he returned to Rovers where he marked his first Premier League match since 2008 with 70 minutes in the 2-0 win over Fulham, much to Allardyce’s delight.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “Steven Reid played 70 minutes on his return to the English top flight and Allardyce was pleased with his contribution.

“It’s been a long time for Reidy, I think it’s 2008 before his last Premier League game. He went to QPR to get some games and it didn’t quite work with an injury and he came back.

“We’ve got so many games that we need to use the squad to its full potential and get some fresher legs in there.

“He’s bursting at the seams to try and get out their and prove he can still be a Premier League footballer after so long. So it can only be an uphill spiral for him if he stays free of injury.

Staying injury free is something that is the main thing and Reidy hasn’t often been able to do this over the past two-three-years!! All we’ll be doing now is hoping that he can and that the Republic of Ireland International can get back to something like his best?!
