A second defeat of the week at Ewood Park for Blackburn ended a seven-days that had started with such promise after the win against Charlton. A defeat to Brentford on Tuesday ended our play-off hopes with the defeat to Brighton on Saturday making absolutely sure….

The one-nil defeat will see us head into the international break hoping that players will be able to regain fitness, and somehow gain the confident to beat Liverpool in the FA Cup ΒΌ final replay with a ‘top 10 finish’ the best we can now hope for!

Brighton started brightly and would have taken the lead had O’Grady not seen his effort hit the post; Teixeira then went close with a drive from 30-yards. That dominance eventually resulted in a goal. O’Grady’s cross was headed past Steele at the near post by Kilgallon (26) for an own goal that put Brighton ahead.

The closest we came in the first half saw Brighton ‘keeper Stockdale forced into a save when he tipped over a Marshall.

We pressed for an equaliser in the second half but following a Cairney cross Stockdale pulled off a fine save to keep out Rhodes’ effort and had to again save from Olsson late on as we failed to level it up.

It was already going to be a pretty sombre international break anyway, with the play-off out of reach, but going into this off back-to-back defeats will be even more disappointing with our best hope now being that this break can see players return to fitness but will they have the confidence when we return to beat Liverpool in the FA Cup?

Before we move on from this game we need your vote in the poll to your right as to who our MotM was?
