Ben Marshall is often linked with a Blackburn exit, he’s now into the last year of his contract.

Former Liverpool and Manchester City defender Kolo Toure joining Celtic should rule Shane Duffy out but Brighton retain an interest. He too is out of contract next summer of course.

As we know talks have opened with Duffy, well at least with his representatives as he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

‘It`s down to the representatives; they`re dealing with it and the manager`s trying to push it. I`m just happy to be here and I`m happy at this club, so whatever happens otherwise, that`s not in my hands. It`s up to the club and to the manager if he wants to give me a new deal, but I`m happy to be here.’

Duffy had his first involvement of pre-season in the draw with Blackpool at the weekend, of course being given a little long off following his involvement with the Republic of Ireland at Euro 2016.

Marshall on the other hand has played his part for Owen Coyle this summer.

Both have now moved into the final 12-months of the current Blackburn deals they’ve got so extensions to these are needed if Rovers aren’t to run the risk of losing them of free transfers next summer.

As much as retaining them is preferred selling now (for more) would be preferred to losing them for nothing wouldn’t it? Then again much depends on how much they’ll be worth to Blackburn this coming season and if that would be worth losing them for nothing as a result….

Coyle himself though has made it clear he wants to keep them, adding.

‘I want them both at the club. Now, of course, with players coming into a year to go on their contract, they`ve all got representatives and everything that goes with it. But I`ve spoken to both the players and it`s something that we`re trying to put in front of them, from the owners and the board, so they can look at it.’

He went onto praise the ‘terrific attitude’ and willingness to ‘be part’ of what he’s looking to do at Ewood Park.

‘They`ve both shown terrific attitude, wanting to be part of that. So that`s what I`m trying to do. I`m trying to get the good players to remain at our club and those two certainly feature heavily in that.’

Do you think they’ll stay?
