There have been many links between Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United over the years, some of which were outlined by boddingtonblue earlier in the week in his Geordies Connection article.
Saturday will see Newcastle make the trip to Ewood Park with both teams in need of points, although Blackburn’s need is probably greater than Newcastle’s at this point in time.
The league table currently sees us sitting in 14th place with Newcastle in 15th with the clubs having almost identical mirror images, both on 16 points. As well as the same points tally perhaps some of you were not aware that we are evenly matched in all possible ways. We have each played 15, won 4, drawn 4 and lost 7. Even the goal difference is the same seeing us both on -5 with us scoring 13 and conceding 18 and Newcastle scoring 12 and conceding 17.
I do not wish to set out to alarm anyone but this mirror imaging effect looks set to change. Currently we may be level on points but this is not a true reflection of the form guide. Despite our win on Saturday (only our first in the past two months) after our average start which has only declined in recent months, Newcastle’s poor start has seen them bounce back recently with them going in a totally different direction.
