Blackburn Rovers at Their Very Best

For those of you that doubt just what Blackburn Rovers can do check out this goal, watch it closely and maybe your opinion will change; we are more than a bully boy team!

So did you watch it; and watch it closely? If you did you’ll see it showed a bit of everything needed to succeed and above all showed just how well Rovers can and do play football despite the harsh criticism and unfair bully boys, thugs, long ball team etc. tags we often get!

There is patience throughout the move which starts from the back, strength from David Bentley to hold of his marker in the first place, then when the ball does get away from him (with maybe a degree of luck to begin with) you see three men including Robbie Savage going for the ball as we battle it out (fairly!) to overpower Liverpool but then we work it out wide again before bringing the maestro Tugay into the move again. At first it looks like he may shoot but his skill, quick thinking and fantastic footwork make a mug of none other than Steven Gerrard before expert vision and a perfectly weighted pass to the run into space of Morten Gamst Pedersen. Gamst then has the composure to steady himself and roll the ball across the six-yard box for the run of Benni McCarthy for a poacher’s goal.

The move rounded off a 30-40 second move of sheer quality and summed up everything that is good about Rovers; we do have the patience needed, strength, battling qualities, power, skill, can play the killer pass and can get players in the right place at the right time!

Those that watch Rovers regularly will know that we do often put together moves similar in quality; maybe if there isn’t always an end product, although several of our goals this season have resulted from such fine moves. The one real missing ingredient is pace; if we can add this we’ll literally be flying.

A move such as this would be drooled upon if put together by the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United or even our opponents Liverpool (no one on the BBC or Sky Sports is really doing this so I’ll do for us on Vital Blackburn!)
