The last few days have seen some quite astonishing news breaking about a possible big money takeover at Blackburn Rovers.
The last few weeks have revealed unconfirmed rumblings surrounding potential takeover interest from a unnamed foriegn company.
All this confused information was however brought into complete focus on Sunday morning when it was revealed that Blackburn Rovers might be the subject of a takevoer by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, heir to the throne of Qatar.
Further shock came to light when it was revealed that as much as £500 million pounds might be pumped into any football club that the Qatari prince chooses to take over. This follows his failed attempt to purchase Manchester United football club.
The prince who`s company already has a major stake in French outfit Paris Saint-Germain and has family ties with Spanish side Malaga is rumoured to be intent to bring his Barclays Premier League based purchase to Champions League level before the World Cup set in Qatar in 2022.
Possible interest in Everton has been mooted. However Bill Kenwright’s asking price of £120m and problems surrounding a move to a new stadium are thought to be a concern for any possible new owner.
This takeover rumour comes following protests over Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean’s position after a poor start to the season in which only one solitary victory has been obtained in eleven Barclays Premier League games.
On Saturday afternoon however it was rumoured that any takeover of the club could stumble owing to the Venkys owners reluctance to sell the club.
But now following a article in the Daily Mirror. It is believed that representatives of the Qatari prince are in India speaking to Venkys chairman Anuradha Desai in the hopes that a deal can be made.
It is however being reported that the only person standing in the way of Rovers having new owners is Rao brother, Balaji Rao. With all four family members being required to come to agreement before a sale can be made. Balaji Rao is also understood to be Steve Kean’s main supporter following heavy pressure to sack the manager in recent months.
As a Blackburn Rovers fan myself of the last 20+ years, I can only plead with the owners of Venkys to sell to the Qatari prince.
This takeover represents a bright future for Blackburn Rovers and a end of many years of hardship.
We all understand that the owners of Venkys have good intentions surrounding the club. But a apparent lack of understanding in the way football works has undoubtably caused massive problems since the takeover of the club.
These problems which have occured have also to a large extent alienated the Ewood Park crowd and Blackburn Rovers fans alike. With protests in the last few weeks being turned around and aimed at the owners of the club themselves.
