Blackburn Rovers FC Indian League?

One of the main objectives of Venky’s ownership is to develop football in India using the Blackburn Rovers name and that looks likely to come to fruition with the formation of a Blackburn Rovers Junior League in Pune, where the owners are based.

The league has been set up and will consist of twenty teams of under 12’s playing in a league format with each home side playing in blue and white and and the away sides wearing Rovers away colours… yellow and black.

And it won’t stop there as there are plans to have similar leagues in others parts of India with a total of 20 leagues expected to be created in all.

Club academy manager Phil Cannon told the Lancashire Telegraph – “It is a great initiative from the owners. Football is taking off in a big way in India and they want to do their bit to help develop the game.

“I know everyone says cricket is their main game, and it is, but when we went out there we saw how popular football is becoming. There is huge potential out there.

“I`m sure one day the owners would love to see these leagues help to develop an Indian player who could play in the Premier League. That is still a way off, but this is a great start.”

Excellent idea and it will promote Blackburn to the locals in India.

Now all they have to do is sort the actual Blackburn Rovers and we are laughing.
