Word on the street is that a bunch of highly trained NASA scientists are due in Blackburn this morning to unravel the biggest mystery of modern times.
Because quite how Blackburn Rovers didn’t beat Newcastle United last night is a mystery that not even Sherlock Holmes could solve.
Despite registering nearly 30 shots towards goal Rovers somehow contrived to score 0 goals and an incredibly poor Newcastle side made their way back up to the North East with all 3 points and a clean sheet.
The lack of Yakubu was evident as a very industrious but nervous Anthony Modeste (making his starting debut) snatched again and again at opportunity after opportunity and that coupled with a tame David Dunn penalty and several clumsy finishes from elsewhere meant another frustrating night at Ewood Park.
Even master of delusions Steve Kean noticed it.
Kean told the LT – “We had enough chances and clear cut chances to win three games never mind one. I felt we did not start the game well but after the deflected goal we controlled the first half.
“I would not be surprised if we had more than double the amount of shots than Newcastle had.
“The performance level we were happy but I felt we snatched at a few chances and did not show enough composure in front of goal.
“I would not blame my players at all. I thought we had a real good go at it and if we can get that type of performance against a team like Newcastle then we will win enough games in the rest of the season.
“We are normally composed and we normally score. We usually have the Yak up front and he does not get over excited easily. He is normally calm and clinical.”
