Blackburn Sign Swiss International

Further additions to the Blackburn Rovers squad during the transfer window were unlikely according to Mark Hughes; but today Rovers signed Bruno Berner.

The 29-year-old left-back, capped 16 times at International level by Switzerland has signed an 18-month deal after a successful trial. A nominal fee (aka very little!) has secured his services from former UEFA Cup opponents Basle. His involvement in this season competition however means much like fellow new arrival Christopher Samba he will be ineligible for the remainder of this seasons campaign.

Berner’s impending arrival probably proved the last straw for Jay McEveley as this would have added further competition for places, hence Hughes allowing him to join Derby on Monday.

Berner is the fourth player to arrive at Ewood Park in the last couple of weeks; yet another as a result of a successful trial and will add back-up for Stephen Warnock, unless Hughes has other plans for Warnock?

One thing that you would now think is Berner’s arrival will surely conclude Sparky’s transfer dealings for the season, at least arriving… won’t it? What do you think, more to come, more to go?
